Logging meter readings

Meters track measurable resources — engine hours, fuel litres, water consumption, distance travelled. Readings drive meter-based preventive maintenance: when a meter crosses a configured threshold, the linked job fires automatically.

Finding a meter

Meters live on assets. Open the asset, click the Meters tab. You’ll see every meter attached to that asset, the current reading, and the last update.

You can also reach all meters from Operations → Meters in the sidebar.

Adding a reading

Click a meter to open it, then click New (or the + icon). Enter the new value and the timestamp (default: now).

If you can’t take a reading right now, leave the date as-is and submit later.

How readings trigger jobs

When a meter crosses its next due threshold, the linked job’s status flips from “scheduled” to “due now” and appears in the assigned technician’s My Tasks.

Tips

• Read meters at the same time of day if possible — consistency matters for trend analysis.
• Don’t backdate readings unless you know the exact historical timestamp. If the reading is from yesterday, set the date to yesterday.
• Estimated daily running time in the meter settings helps Tero forecast when the next service is due even before a fresh reading lands.
