Connection requirements
Tero.Ops needs a live connection to its server. Your work is saved on the server as you go, not stored on the device — so the app needs to reach the server to load a screen and to save a change.
What happens when the connection drops
Tero.Ops checks its connection to the server every 30 seconds. After two failed checks in a row, it covers the screen with a message and waits:
Connection lost Reconnecting to server…
You can’t keep working while it’s showing. Nothing you had already saved is affected — it’s on the server. The page underneath stays as it was, so anything you’d typed into a form is still there when the message goes away. Don’t reload or close the page while it’s showing, or unsaved changes will be lost.
While the message is up, the app checks again every few seconds and removes it on its own as soon as the server can be reached. You don’t need to refresh or log in again.
Because of the 30-second interval, a short drop may not show the message at all. If you save during one, the save fails — just try again once you’re back in coverage.
”Can’t reach the server”
If the server can’t be reached while Tero.Ops is starting up, you’ll see Can’t reach the server instead. The app keeps retrying on its own; click Retry now to try straight away.
Working where the signal is patchy
- Save as you go. Don’t leave a completion report or a long description half-finished while you move out of coverage.
- Finish what you started before you move. Save the form you’re on rather than leaving it open.
- If the message stays up, the app is still trying. Check the device’s own network connection first.
Ships with an on-board installation
Vessels running an on-board (embarked) Tero installation talk to a server on the ship itself, so the crew keeps working normally regardless of the link to shore.
Does Tero work offline?
Not today. The app doesn’t queue changes on the device for later upload, and there is no offline mode to switch into. If offline capability matters for your operation, tell us at tero@tero.is — it helps us prioritise.
