Job templates

If you find yourself writing the same job description over and over — “500-hour engine service”, “monthly fire-pump test”, “annual hull inspection” — turn it into a job template. New jobs can be created from a template in one click with all the fields pre-filled.

Job templates list

Open Maintenance → Job templates in the sidebar.

List of job templates

You’ll see every template you have, with filters by category and priority.

Creating a template

Click Create. The form looks like the new-job form but without an asset (templates are asset-agnostic).

Fill in:

  • Title and description
  • Estimated time
  • Required parts (the standard kit for this work)
  • Categories (tag for filtering later)
  • Default priority

Editing a job template

Click Save.

Applying a template

When creating a new job (one-time or recurring), there’s an Apply template button at the top of the form. Pick a template and every field is pre-filled. Then you only need to:

  • Pick the asset
  • Pick the assignee
  • Set the recurrence and due date

Editing a template

Open the template from the list and click Edit. Changes apply to future jobs created from this template — they don’t change jobs already created.

Best practices

  • One template per type of work. Don’t combine “engine service” and “deck inspection” into one template.
  • Keep descriptions specific. Vague templates produce vague jobs.
  • Update templates when procedures change. They’re meant to evolve.
